When a custom coin is designed and minted, the areas that are to be painted have a raised metal wall around the area, to hold the paint. If you imagine the design like a coloring book, any area that needs color has to have a raised wall around it.
This challenge coin, designed for the 104FS, will be finished in a black nickel plating with color and epoxy on both sides. I’ll post the finish coin as soon as it’s done! This silver image is a sample strike to show the 3D detail and make sure everything looks correct before they’re all minted! When we check the sample for errors or mistakes, we send an approval to the factory to continue. We check the quality of our coins at every step of the production process, to ensure the highest quality challenge coins you can own.
